Mischief Makers to Michigan

The mischief makers are leaving me to travel to Michigan - alone. I’m so excited for them; they’ll meet new creature friends and see more human creatures. What if I get lonely without them? What will I do? What will become of Sib’s Sunday?

I was able to snap some photos in the warehouse to show their enthusiasm for the trip.

Take a peek

Take a peek

I issue a challenge: promise yourself you will have a positive day. That is not to say your day will be charmed, but that you are willing to see the goodness and beauty behind the daily grime and in any people you encounter. It will be difficult at times, but take deep breaths and refocus to see what was hidden to you before.

If you are mindful of your goal all day long, extend the challenge to the weekend. Grab a camera, sketch or writing pad and document the beauty you see.

Grow fearless

Overheard at the Chicago International Quilt Festival, “I’m tired of the word DREAM”. Hopefully, she was not tired of the concept.

Personally, I need prompts, reminders and permission. I NEED to live in my alternative worlds, where tearing my house apart will lead to a fabulous home, where buying a lottery ticket will have me packing my bags for art-camps and Ireland, and the next technique I choose to delve into will be my bliss and my life’s passion.

Without living fearlessly, where would the ”oops, that didn’t work, but it looks really cool” next exciting technique come from? What if we were so afraid of imperfections and failure we withered and died inside?

Grow. Grow fearless. Dream. Believe. Live. Create. Take risks. michele

Time for change

believe in everything

believe in everything

The Democratic National Convention is here in Denver Colorado. Whether you are a donkey, elephant, or independent, I think we can agree it is time for change.

It is time to have faith in our country’s strengths once again. Time to believe we will move in positive directions, directions that are healthy for us individually, as a nation, and the human race. believe

went back to school, even though you are long past your 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s…

happily give up your seat to anyone needing more than you.

tip at least 20% to food service people. (They work hard).

give old linens to local shelters, spay and neuter your pets, never leave them in cars in the summer, or outside in the winter.

have handed your delicious left-overs to a person that needs a decent meal.

Hello Beautiful, now you know who you are.

Little Helpers

Tommy volunteered to be the contractor on my deck replacement project and recruited his cousin Lovey (in stripes) for the labor. It was a disaster. Tommy found he could remove nails without damaging his teeth. Lovey found that the composite deck boards are heavier than they look. Clumsy Lovey fell through the framing and barely held on by a screw! And Tommy bid adieu to the fun of the day with a Dracula impression.

What nuts; they accomplished nothing on the deck re-do! Guess Bubba and I have to take the project back. To see their glorious insanity better, click on the first photo and view a self guided slide show with your cursor in the upper right corner. There you will find the hidden NEXT button. love (and recycled plastic - Trex) michele

We’ve been in the warehouse

We’ve been busy working in the warehouse, so apologies for neglecting the embellishments.

man of action

In the meantime, I would like to introduce you to Tony Fontana. He thinks he is an action figure, and so he shall be.

He’s been hanging around, keeping an eye on the office, while Bubba and I have been shipping out dishes. I should be back to the enjoyable duties of embellishments by Monday, thanks for hanging in there with me. michele

Sam Adams Mini quilt

Sam Adams

Sam Adams cap quilt by myc

After five wonderful courses of food, accompanied by 5 varieties of Samuel Adams beer, I made my self an adorable little rememberance. Sam Adams bottle caps on hand painted fabrics, tied up with ribbon.

Those of us in attendance at the Samuel Adams dinner, (see post on August 13, 2008) were lucky enough to taste and vote on two new Sam’s brews: a coffee stout and a blackberry witbier. The blackberry was delicious, but I have had the opportunity to enjoy fruity beers already. The coffee flavor was strong and unusual, so I voted for the coffee. If you have an similar event in your area, I recommend you sign up, although accompanying dinners are atypical. Take along good people that don’t mind if you burp a little.

Thank you to the lovely servers at the Summit and the Sam Adams’ rep for collecting the bottle caps for me. Though they kept laughing and shaking their heads - “you won’t sleep under a bottle cap quilt, will you?” this asked in horror and disdain. I would if I were a wee 7 inches tall. michele

Why not?

Play hookie one day this week? Bake some cookies and give half of them away? Make your holiday gift list now? Make all of your holiday gifts this year?

why not?

why not?

Buy a new box of crayons, if only for the smell? Find a photo of an old friend and go crazy with a photoshop type program, print it out and send it to them with a quick handwritten note?

Open up the wine you reserved for company and enjoy it with a self pampering night of indulgence?

Say, “what the heck” and try that new art technique you just read about?

Write down 5 excuses for why you didn’t…

Jack’s chair Olympics

Jack has gotten into the spirit of the Olympics and has been practicing his Chair gymnastics. The emotion, grit and determination on his face as he begins his routine is spectacular and unmatched. Please click on the first photo to see it for yourself (continue clicking on the upper right area for “next” photo). His relief at a brilliant routine accomplished flawlessly is felt by all who view the final photo.

Bravo little Olympian, bravo.

too much imagination?

too much imagination

My imagination is going haywire. I don’t know what has gotten into me. For the last 2 years, I’ve been so freaked by the economy, I’ve tried to prepare my emotions for the worst - losing my beloved home.

Since the post on August 9th, 2008, I’ve dreamed of fixing up my decor, not to sell my home, but to live joyfully in it. Paint, lighting, new flooring, built in cubbie holes to display art and collections, and trick doors to hide the basement stairs. Plus I want to enjoy the sweat and toil (and pain) put into my new deck.

I want the magic. love (and sweat equity - and watching too much HGTV in the painting room) michele

Eat, drink, be merry

big dinner

Our Grande Dame matriarch, grandmámá, is treating the females of our local family to tasty goodness tonight: a multi-course Sam Adams Beer Dinner. Five courses of seasonal and exalted brews perfectly paired with food. Ooh, are you jealous? I’m sorry you cannot join us. That would be fun.

To prepare for the over stuffing, I’ve eaten nothing but green beans for lunch. Okay, I did eat a lot of pizza for breakfast/brunch, but that’s nitpicking.

Yes, I have a coffee mug button on the collage instead of a pilsner, but there will be eating, and merriment, and perhaps a cup of coffee when my belly and I get home. If you are in the Denver, Colorado area, the Aurora Summit also has wine dinners. love (and hops) michele
