Kiln Opening

Kiln opening July 5

Now we have lots of butterflies, fish. whales, sharks, dolphins, hearts, faces, and trees. yea!

Though there wont be many sets added to the on-line store till Sunday. Truth is I tried to kill another printer today. However, this was not one of my “what-if” attempts. I’ve come to realize that I react to machines, equipment, and heights in the same way: without a respectful fear. Anyway… there are a couple sets of trees and more wordie stars in the shopping emporium. more buttons

At right is the second level down. (It’s just like Christmas for me)

Betsy’s art quilt

Betsy\'s Quilt Collage

Betsy’s challenge piece is featured for the start of the 3 day weekend. It has a joy of the outdoors, and it shows a unleashed joy of creating. Looking closely at this small quilt makes me want to go home and play with everything in reach. Betsy’s used stamped, printed, dyed, and painted tissue and paper towels; there is ephemera, sequins, beads, and patterned sheers. Topped off with beautiful free motion embroidery, in colorful thread, a metallic joy embellishment and a ceramic blue butterfly. Wow.

I will post a couple more examples in a few days. But the kiln opening is tomorrow! yea!

Glazing ceramic buttons

newly bisqued buttons

Newly pressed buttons pulled from the bisque firing, stacked and getting sorted into desired colors. 3 coats of glaze applied to each one, with an eyelash or cat’s whisker (just kidding - I use a regular old brush, but it sounded exotic). These piles will take me 2 days to glaze - there are more flats of glazing in process off camera.

A rare glimpse into the inner sanctum of the glazing room. I hope it was interesting for you. But the real joy for me will be in a few days when each one of these buttons has been glazed and fired and dazzling for the kiln opening. Kiln openings for me are like red carpet moments: “oh wow”, then a Snoopy dance. Hopefully you will check back in to see the Wow.

Thank you for looking. michele

La Luna Loteria

hot nights

Perfect representation of another hot summer night. Only two and a half months more of these. But plums and apples are maturing nicely. The sun and heat are good for somethings.

This ceramic embellished collage is beautiful in person, with bronze glittery eyelash threads, and sparkly beads that look likeĀ  stars. Viva La Luna!

Hot summer nights

too hot

It is either too hot to dream, or heat hallucinations do not stay in my memory long. Probably a good thing.

Do most people dream of summer during the beautiful seasons? or dream of autumn, winter, and spring during summer? or lie under the plum tree and make themselves believe traffic noises are rolling waves heard from under the the palm tree?

Those who dare to create

color accentsThis week I was fortunate enough to have a test run for the upcoming Make It University, Long Beach. It was a really fun class. We went with one theme and a size Have faithsmaller than we will with the MIU class, to ease me into the process. But I was thrilled with how different and individual everyone’s piece became. Nancy Smith of Great American Quilt Factory hostedDebs-house and supplied us with the workspace; here she is on the upper right accenting the trim in purple. See how varied the projects are? So I believe I’m ready for the fun and frivolity that comes to those who dare to create. I hope to see you there.

Green mood

added to store

Kermit was wrong, it is easy being green. No hidden agenda here; I must have been in a green mood because most of the collages I listed in the store this morning seemed predominately verdigris hued. Perhaps, because it’s hot, and these cooler tones are more welcoming.

Tray with Ceramic collage

collage tray

This tray has a inset focal frame. We’ve taken a button collage and placed it into the frame. Decorative and utilitarian; and the collages can be switched out for parties, holidays, and whims.
