Why not?

Play hookie one day this week? Bake some cookies and give half of them away? Make your holiday gift list now? Make all of your holiday gifts this year?

why not?

why not?

Buy a new box of crayons, if only for the smell? Find a photo of an old friend and go crazy with a photoshop type program, print it out and send it to them with a quick handwritten note?

Open up the wine you reserved for company and enjoy it with a self pampering night of indulgence?

Say, “what the heck” and try that new art technique you just read about?

Write down 5 excuses for why you didn’t…

too much imagination?

too much imagination

My imagination is going haywire. I don’t know what has gotten into me. For the last 2 years, I’ve been so freaked by the economy, I’ve tried to prepare my emotions for the worst - losing my beloved home.

Since the post on August 9th, 2008, I’ve dreamed of fixing up my decor, not to sell my home, but to live joyfully in it. Paint, lighting, new flooring, built in cubbie holes to display art and collections, and trick doors to hide the basement stairs. Plus I want to enjoy the sweat and toil (and pain) put into my new deck.

I want the magic. love (and sweat equity - and watching too much HGTV in the painting room) michele

Eat, drink, be merry

big dinner

Our Grande Dame matriarch, grandmámá, is treating the females of our local family to tasty goodness tonight: a multi-course Sam Adams Beer Dinner. Five courses of seasonal and exalted brews perfectly paired with food. Ooh, are you jealous? I’m sorry you cannot join us. That would be fun.

To prepare for the over stuffing, I’ve eaten nothing but green beans for lunch. Okay, I did eat a lot of pizza for breakfast/brunch, but that’s nitpicking.

Yes, I have a coffee mug button on the collage instead of a pilsner, but there will be eating, and merriment, and perhaps a cup of coffee when my belly and I get home. If you are in the Denver, Colorado area, the Aurora Summit also has wine dinners. love (and hops) michele

You know who you are

you know who you are

Hello Beautiful, you know who you are:

The one that picks up trash in the parking lot, and hold doors open for little old ladies, and anyone with struggles.

Occasionally lets the person in line behind you, with only one item, go ahead of you.

You mowed your neighbor’s lawn, when they were sick, and picked up groceries for a friend.

You are forgiving and kind and generous.

You helped to push a stranger’s car or change a tire, and helped a stray dog get home.

You make a martini, grilled cheese sandwiches, or mash potatoes when someone needs a pick-me up.

You give attention and love to the ugly dogs and cats as well as the pretty ones.

You make dinner and homemade birthday cakes.

You recycle and conserve. You are all beautiful. love, gratitude, michele

Imagining Angel food cake?

cleansing the palate

Imagine romance, or solitude, peace of mind, angel food cake? Cleansing the palate of over stimulation?

I realized I must be, when I was drawn to this collage card recently. Because it is monochromatic, or the soft wisps of fiber containing the creamy hearts, so they don’t fly away? I don’t know, but it makes me wonder if it is time to paint over the red bedroom walls to a soothing taupe.

Most Haunted is back

Friday night

All new! No more repeats. It’s hard to feel prickly anticipation when you already know what ghosts are going to make themselves known. It feels like a year since Travel Channel had new shows of Most Haunted on Friday nights. I’m so excited, I’m geeking out!

It’s been a while since they’ve tried a Ouija board, lately it’s been rock throwing. Regardless of what happens this year, I get to indulge my little crush on Karl Beattie (don’t tell Yvette - remember when she mocked that love lorn ghost for Karl’s return? so sad). So grab a pizza and make a night of it.  Derek Acorah (love him?  hate him?) even has a show on following MH. Tune in, have fun.

ATC trades at Make It University

expressly yours artist trading cards

Quilting Arts and Cloth Paper Scissors are hosting an incredible ATC (artist trading cards) trade event. If you plan on attending the International Quilt Festival in Long Beach, CA, I strongly encourage you to create some Artistic Trading Cards with an entertainment theme. For every card you bring in, you will take the same number home. How exciting - imagine bringing 30 cards and leaving with 30 individual little works of art. Check out their link here for more info

Our contributions above are based on a love for music. We’ve added small light weight heart buttons. They are pretty cute, if you don’t mind me saying.

If you play along, stop by our booth and show off. Booth #1656, on a corner of the Make It University quadrant. Hoping to you.

Sis and Bro show prep

packing collagesAfter being left in Colorado instead of beholding the beauty of Chicago, Sis and Bro declared their willingness to earn their own way on the next International Quilt Festival trip.

They began by packing the display suitcases full of finished collage cards. bro supervising Bro is explaining the technique he would like Sis to use. Notice he’s talking, she’s working.

The increased gas consumption based on their combined weight is going to be outrageous, so they will need to work diligently. It was hard for their ice chest loadingtiny little bodies to load the car, but it was just too hot for T and I to do.

Great job, little ones. Now we all sleep well. We leave at 5am.

you cant break in half

how easy they breakWhen there is great texture on these buttons, it means there are deep cuts into the top of the clay. It looks pretty, but if the button’s depth is too shallow, it means there are stress points that can snap it in half. I’m a wee bit clumsy; I break things.

Bubba wasn’t kidding: I tried to break myself in half. Maybe I have the luck God gave babies and drunks: I’m still whole, and still have to drive to California. I can bump into a soft plastic clothes hamper and show bruises in minutes. I threw my entire weight into a death drop, caught only by 2 x 4 posts on two of the fragilest points of my body, and nary a bruise - 12 hours later. Still driving to California…

There will be great shopping on the way. Vegas has great rubber stamp stores, ceramic supplies, gelato, and my favorite art gallery at the Bellagio. Fabulous destinations await your perusal at MAPMUSE. It is very cool and user friendly; I’ve even found all the gourmet cupcake shops along the route.

I will learn to be afraid of heights someday, thank you for being concerned in mean time. A sore, but grateful, michele

Joyful creations

bisqe fire

Newly made puppy buttons, getting their first firing at about 1987 degrees Fahrenheit. They will take 8.5 hours to fire, and one full day after that to cool down. Then they will be glazed in white and black glazes, and be shiny and beautiful, awaiting exciting applications on joyful creations. bisque firing

In the same kiln load are red clay buttons. Textured hearts and apples shown on the right. Red clay is rare for me;it is gorgeous but brittle and delicate, dries so quickly it warps easily. But they are so pretty.

The plan is to get them glazed in time to get some sets in the on-line store, and to take many with us to Long Beach IQwider shotF.

Click on images to see a larger photo. They will look much different when they have been glazed and fired again. I’ll attempt to do side by side comparisons to post in a couple days.
