Just one of those days

buttons coming out of kiln

Well it’s Michele’s brother “Bubba” that’s not my real name but it sounds cool. Michele got stung by a wasp then fell and hurt her arm and hand and tried to bust her ribs all within one hour. Doc says she is fine just a little sore. All that just to get out of driving cross country for the quilt festival in California. I kid, I kid…. Anyway here is a photo of the kiln opening this morning. This is the first firing, they will be glazed next and fired again hopefully she won’t be too sore tomorrow.

Joyful creations

bisqe fire

Newly made puppy buttons, getting their first firing at about 1987 degrees Fahrenheit. They will take 8.5 hours to fire, and one full day after that to cool down. Then they will be glazed in white and black glazes, and be shiny and beautiful, awaiting exciting applications on joyful creations. bisque firing

In the same kiln load are red clay buttons. Textured hearts and apples shown on the right. Red clay is rare for me;it is gorgeous but brittle and delicate, dries so quickly it warps easily. But they are so pretty.

The plan is to get them glazed in time to get some sets in the on-line store, and to take many with us to Long Beach IQwider shotF.

Click on images to see a larger photo. They will look much different when they have been glazed and fired again. I’ll attempt to do side by side comparisons to post in a couple days.

Eyeballs, shirts, and pants

eyeballs and clothing

If there is anyone out there that likes eyeballs as much as I do, I’d love to hear from you.

How cute are these little shirts and pants?  But not to be outdone, the Texas Longhorn Martini tile. An idea I’m pursuing for the Make It University at the Houston International Quilt Festival in October, 2008.

Hello Lynn C. in Illinois. Here’s a sneak peak at your witches goodies. They should be in the mail to you Thursday the 22nd. I hesitated showing you some of the choices, because the picture is not good. But I’ll send you the best ones.

have fun, go to your studio/ table/ desk and create for 15 minutes. love, and play, myc

morning kiln opening

tiles and buttons

Already a month behind, trying to get ready for Long Beach IQF. So it’s time to make lots of new, shiny, pretties. We are fulfilling the requests to have many single buttons, and we will still have the finished “button-cards” available. Also, we are presenting a mixed mosaic class for the Make It University. If our proposal is accepted, 25 students will have a colorful art piece to take home, ready to hang up, or give as a gift. As the examples come together, we will be posting them here.

Apologies about the online shopping. Honest we are working on it and have given ourselves a deadline of May 23rd. Thank you for your patience. love (and colors)

quilted big fatty mugs

quilted mugs kiln opening

You can sleep under a patchwork quilt, but how about drinking from one? Doesn’t this kiln load look like a giant easter basket full of  patchwork painted jumbo mugs? It does to me.  Their extra large size makes them fabulous for baked casseroles, layered desserts, or belly busting root-beer floats. Available by special order only - to see more shapes that can be customized like these beauties, check out EYStudio.com

Kiln opening April 1st

Kiln Opening April 1st, 2008

Caffeine, cowboys, saints, bingo, loteria cards, and assorted craziness coming out of the kiln. I’m hoping for 2 more batches before the Chicago International Quilt Show in less than 2 weeks. yikes, I’m getting nervous. But we have a great spot in the Make it University area, we’re surrounded by fabulous artists, and we are still having fun putting the mixed-media collage cards and quilts together. (plus a secret: I’m making eyeballs! hee hee - myc)

March 17 kiln openings

glaze kiln opening

Always excited waiting for the kiln to cool enough for opening when we have finished a big batch of the prettys. So this is the preview of the buttons before they are selected for the mixed media cards. Return in a couple of days to see how these ceramic embellishments get singled out, or paired up for the completed collages.
