The ease in which connections can be made
in this golden age of the internet is mind boggling. Serendipity and coincidences have made me aware of the generous nature of Sue Bleiweiss. She is a tireless creator: one of those fairies or gnomes that makes hand made creations appear overnight. Really, she’s amazing, I don’t think she sleeps.
I’ve been slow in adding her web-site to my favorites due to being overwhelmed by the maze of information she imparts. Sue is generous with techniques and resources, has free tutorials and projects, offers on-line classes and is the publisher of the mixed media zine Fiber & Stitch. Whew, I’m exhausted just talking about her. Looking to expand your arena of mixed media? love books? Check this energizer bunny out.

Beth Moran is sharing her art doll creation with us. This lovely is all hand sewn. The most amazing thing to me, is that she is giving this away (shh, it’s a gift for her mom). Take a look at her web page to see more of her great art dolls.
This was completed from Beth’s trip around the IQF vendors at Long Beach. Isn’t that amazing? It was only one week ago. I haven’t finished projects started 25 years ago.
How thoughtful she sent along the photo to show the Imagine flower embellishment she got from us. Thank you Beth, aren’t art dolls the best?

In life, in art, in taking risks, Be Fearless.
Deb Benson is comfortable in beading and chain making, but is taking on new mediums. She joined in the fun at Make It University in Long Beach to dabble in creative goodness. Luckily, she ended up in my workshop for mixed media mosaics and made this beautiful plaque.
I hope it serves her well as she tackles designing patterns. Thank you, Deb, if I don’t see you at the 2009 Long Beach International Quilt Festival, I look forward to seeing you in Houston 2010. Best of Luck in all of your endeavors.
love (and taking risks) michele

Meet Frankie, uber-navigator extraordinaire. Says he knows the way to the quilt festival in Long Beach. He seems to have a great sense of direction (might be because Sis sewed a compass on top of his head). Oh did I mention he loves popcorn.

Having quickly learned of their poor navigation skills, the siblings, Sis and Bro, made quick work out of constructing their own uber-navigator.
The Road Trip to Long Beach is back on track.
Through the dessert and over the pass…

Quilting Arts and Cloth Paper Scissors are hosting an incredible ATC (artist trading cards) trade event. If you plan on attending the International Quilt Festival in Long Beach, CA, I strongly encourage you to create some Artistic Trading Cards with an entertainment theme. For every card you bring in, you will take the same number home. How exciting – imagine bringing 30 cards and leaving with 30 individual little works of art. Check out their link here for more info
Our contributions above are based on a love for music. We’ve added small light weight heart buttons. They are pretty cute, if you don’t mind me saying.
If you play along, stop by our booth and show off. Booth #1656, on a corner of the Make It University quadrant. Hoping to you.

Sunny, yesterday my life was filled with rain.
Sunny, you smiled at me and really eased the pain.
The dark days are gone, and the bright days are here,
My Sunny one shines so sincere.
Sunny one so true, I love you.

Insuring they will not be left at the studio, to work with all the yummy new texture slabs and sheets that just arrived before our departure – (so sad am I), Bro, left, and Sis, right, took up the steering wheel position. They promise to navigate so they will not be in the way. Road trip is under way… Long Beach International Quilt Festival, here we come.
An inaugural event for my lovely little children – the big Road Trip, and for IQF in Long Beach CA.

After being left in Colorado instead of beholding the beauty of Chicago, Sis and Bro declared their willingness to earn their own way on the next International Quilt Festival trip.
They began by packing the display suitcases full of finished collage cards.
Bro is explaining the technique he would like Sis to use. Notice he’s talking, she’s working.
The increased gas consumption based on their combined weight is going to be outrageous, so they will need to work diligently. It was hard for their
tiny little bodies to load the car, but it was just too hot for T and I to do.
Great job, little ones. Now we all sleep well. We leave at 5am.

When there is great texture on these buttons, it means there are deep cuts into the top of the clay. It looks pretty, but if the button’s depth is too shallow, it means there are stress points that can snap it in half. I’m a wee bit clumsy; I break things.
Bubba wasn’t kidding: I tried to break myself in half. Maybe I have the luck God gave babies and drunks: I’m still whole, and still have to drive to California. I can bump into a soft plastic clothes hamper and show bruises in minutes. I threw my entire weight into a death drop, caught only by 2 x 4 posts on two of the fragilest points of my body, and nary a bruise – 12 hours later. Still driving to California…
There will be great shopping on the way. Vegas has great rubber stamp stores, ceramic supplies, gelato, and my favorite art gallery at the Bellagio. Fabulous destinations await your perusal at MAPMUSE. It is very cool and user friendly; I’ve even found all the gourmet cupcake shops along the route.
I will learn to be afraid of heights someday, thank you for being concerned in mean time. A sore, but grateful, michele

Well it’s Michele’s brother “Bubba” that’s not my real name but it sounds cool. Michele got stung by a wasp then fell and hurt her arm and hand and tried to bust her ribs all within one hour. Doc says she is fine just a little sore. All that just to get out of driving cross country for the quilt festival in California. I kid, I kid…. Anyway here is a photo of the kiln opening this morning. This is the first firing, they will be glazed next and fired again hopefully she won’t be too sore tomorrow.
