How many of you truly enjoy all the crazy preparations before the big holidays? Do you sit back and enjoy the twinkling lights or candles decorating your home, the holiday music playing?
This time of year blows. Our ‘day job’ goes through massive stress and decision making right now. Getting samples made, refined, priced and shipped, while attempting to grant last minute wishes for dishes.
I savor the new year, putting this last year in the past.

Home is where the heart is.
Where would home be if your heart dreamed? Would you have a home if you dreamed of traveling the world over? What if your dreams were split between hemispheres or seasons?
Home is where the heart is, and my heart dreams of warm water, sand, and sangria.
Mixed Media Monday is homing in on the house this week. I can’t wait to see where artists live.
My collage is ceramic embellishments: a southern hemisphere star proclaiming a celebration of my dream home (down Mexico way).

I’d been struggling all month long to get back to normal. I’ve learned I need structure and routine to funtion. So I put myself on a new schedule. When I get home from the ”day job” I cannot sit down for one hour minimum; I must play.
I’ve been painting, collage-ing, and sewing. It’s working. Even the devastation of the economy hasn’t sent me tail spinning like usual.
Go figure. Go play.

Miasocks and the 3 bears
The last photos from the Sib’s road trip to Houston. There were some very generous vendors that allowed Mia to frolic and play in their booths. A large thank you to Touch Alpaca and Quilting Adventures. Also a thank you to Lucey APQS Long Arm quilting.
Click on Mia and the 3 bears to see the remainder of the Houston photos. Hope you had a restful weekend.

Remember the devastating pictures of when Yellowstone park burned ? And how amazing the regrowth has been? I tried to find before and after pictures, but I don’t excel at google searches. However, I did find this article. As I read about the necessary evil of this fire, I saw the metaphor for the state of the economy. Scroll down to: (6) Rebirth and the cycle of life. Bush has burned us to the ground and now is the time for us to get busy rebuilding. We will be starting from a point of scorched earth and psyches.
On a lighter note: Bubba’s done some rebuilding of the on-line store. There is now separate categories for buttons only (not mounted on collage cards) and collages. At the top of the store page are the tabs for each category. To see ALL listings at once, they are still there also, under the gallery showroom tab. A click on the above butterfly fate image will link you directly to the store.
Now rest up, we’ve got work to do. michele

I overheard a disturbing commercial last night. I believe it was for that big electronics store, and the gist of the ad was: doing the right thing by our military personnel at Christmas time by buying just the right electronics for when they return home. HUH?
I understand the concept of advertising dollars geared towards our lack of self esteem, but at a time when family is one of the few valuable things we have in our lives and everything else is economically out of reach, I find this completely irresponsible and greedy.
Responsible prioritizing this holiday: family, health, laughter, cookies – not new televisions.

Crazy behavior can be excused, because, you’re crazy.
I publicly admitted to my family’s predilections for over indulgence. To illustrate this, my mother and I went window shopping today, at Costco. We could be overheard saying, “WOW, that looks awesome”, “Oh, that is so decadent” “that is EVIL”, meaning, can’t- say- no- to the sugar coma, artery clogging, no nutritional value beauty that is beholden. Remember the ‘wish books’ of yore? We wished away in the refrigeration section of a box store, and it actually brought us peace and joy.
Ask aloud, what drove the food crazy Mother and daughter out of the studio during the holiday season? I will tell you. Bubba single-handedly ate 2 pounds of home made baklava in 24 hours, that was off limits till Thanksgiving, and Mom was ready to skin him alive for it.
Did I mention crazy?

As the waning moon hovers, I wish for fortitude and for the California winds to cease, and the fires to be contained and for the health and safety of my family there.
Forgive me. I am still working at 128th speed. Desiring to play and develop an art camp curriculum, I’m dragging my feet on everything I need to be doing. But I have pathetically managed to add 9 whole entries into the on-line store.

It’s no secret I am a member of an indulging food loving family. This morning I put on my fat pants and they were snug and it’s not even officially the holiday season yet! Cheese and Rice!
Will this put a damper on Thanksgiving? Nope. I love food. What is better than real butter on hot -from- the- oven dinner rolls?

Apologies for being out of touch these last 3 weeks. Returning from Houston, I’ve been loathe to fit back into daily life. Instead I’ve been exploring the dreams of what I wish for in the next chapter of my life.
Questioned in Houston about teaching piqued my desire to generate creative enthusiasm in others. I’m currently dreaming up a month long art camp to play and create a pile of “starter stash” and the possibilities are overwhelmingly delicious.
In the meantime, I must push myself to maintain responsibilities. I will be stocking the on-line store this weekend. Thank you for your patience. Plus more silly sibling (sock creatures) pictures from Houston coming Sunday. Love (and enthusiasm), michele
