This will be the most important election of my lifetime.
Bailout, crisis, escalating deficit, financial collapse, lack of pride and faith in the government.
Next year…
Having never worked so small before, I was excited by this weeks Big Art Adventure and I love book projects. WOW, was this hard!
I advise anyone unaccustomed to working so small, do not begin with 3x your daily caffeine allotment. (I was celebrating it being Saturday). I love my finished project, but I think I will try to squeeze in a shrine box project before Friday, like Linda’s. Knowing how hard it is getting much detail into such a tiny piece, has given me new respect for diminutive-work artists.
I used the ceramic tile NOT TO SCALE as my starting point. I stamped coffee stained jewelry tags with my new custom rubber stamps, in green inks. Tied with embroidery thread, I attached them through an eyelet hole in the bottom. Strung into a necklace, I shall wear it proudly in Houston at the International Quilt Festival. love (and work outside your comfort zone).
Warning: Do not leave unsocialized sibling alone.
Recent photos of Mia and No-name playing plastic surgery have come to our attention. We kindly ask for respect while we work through therapy with our recent additions to our family. It is our sincere desire, upon the return of their sisters, brothers and cousins, that they will learn healthy entertainment activities.
The large brood looks to be having healthy social interactions in Michigan, and perhaps jealousy has reared it’s ugly head in recent events here in Colorado.
This is a big cheat. I made this shrine of my Great Grandmother for my mother’s Christmas present; obviously made months ago, but Parental Unit insisted I be a big greedy showoff.
There are no ceramic embellishments involved, but every detail included represents my favorite memories of her. She was a trail blazer without apologies. She lived hard and gentle and did as she pleased. An excellent role model.
Thank you for indulging Terry and me: letting the www and the Awfully Big Art Adventure know Velma exsisted, was respected, feared, admired and loved. michele
…are free to fly. Fly away.
I remember during the 1970′s in Colorado, having thrilled at the site of hundreds of Monarch butterflies. This year I’ve only seen one. That makes me a little sad. Seeing butterflies, for me, is a little like finding money on the street. A little thrill and joy lifting my spirits. They are more than pretty insects, they seam to be nature’s Mona Lisa smile.
Creative Wednesday currently has a butterfly theme going on. Join in or pop over to see more of nature smiling.
I love mosaics, shrines and Moon imagery. Ta da! I’ve combined all three. Thanks to the fabulous contributors on Mixed Media Monday, Chris across the pond led me to Awfully Big Art Adventure – more art challenges, yea! This is their very first challenge, and it is a delicious one for me.
I’ve taken a plaster caste of a Crescent Moon man from a Swiss chocolate mold and painted him with acrylics and set him inside a shadow box. I then glued on handmade ceramic and polymer clay tiles, decorated with different paints, rubber stamps, jewelry findings and sparkley stars and store bought glass tiles. Inside the box I glued tiny lights from floral supplies, so when they are turned on they appear to be wee little stars.
Thank you for letting me share another project that brings me joy, michele
October 10, 2008: I have added a picture of this shrine lighted at the bottom of the October 8, 2008 post.
I am Terry, (the Parental unit) guest hosting on eyembellishments. I want to share what I love for Mixed Media Monday. I am completely enthralled by the paranormal world. Whether it be Ouija boards, tarot cards, psychics, hauntings or reaching out to passed loved ones, I am intrigued.
This mixed media collage is composed of metallic and regular papers, fabrics, fibers and ceramic embellishments.
Mixed Media Monday’s theme for this week is Things-That-We-Love to do: I love Sock Creatures. Love to make them, pose them, learn their stories and see what other people around the world have discovered with socks. They are so silly, they make me smile. Each one develops a distinct personality. And they are the best traveling companions.
This weekend I pillaged my sock drawer and began this newest creature. They are so quick to whip up, it’s hard not to sacrifice all my foot apparel.
Sunday evening it received it’s eyeballs to be able to take in all the wonders of new world and see what other creators, over on MMM love to make.
With the amazing people out there in this world wide web, life cannot stay dreary for long. It is easy to touch each other with heartfelt words, inspiring creations, life lessons, art lessons, photographs, kindness, humor, and support. All of this through satellites and wires, and yet it still carries the human element of reaching out with flesh and warmth.
I’m terrible at taking my own advice, thankfully Lynn has reminded me of taking baby steps, everyday. Fannie is simply kindness and love in human form, and Joanne needs to set up a blog to provide the world with her words that salve, refresh, fortify and inspire.
To all who touch, you are magic. love and appreciation, michele
Obsessive. I am. Sometimes I get so wound up I obliterate my balance and then I hibernate. I am forcing myself out of isolation now. Thank you Joanne and Fannie. What is my latest obsession? well…
It’s no secret the domestic economy has been killing small businesses for the last 4 years, and now it’s killing those BIG BOYS. We’re all affected. Either large (bankruptcies, foreclosures) and small (cost of milk, infinity…). And then this terrific book comes out, The Savvy Crafter’s Guide to Success, by Sandra McCall.
Is it still possible to work hard, have the desire, and find the means to work at art-making FULL TIME? Or is it lucky breaks and connections? At this hiccup in the strength and faith of our economic recovery, is it wise?
Have you any current success stories? Please share. and sorry for being such a downer, michele
We had a lovely play date, Mia, Terry and I, at our favorite local fabric store, Great American Quilt Factory. Cruising the store before the playing upstairs began, I noticed this cute little creature. He was sly, following us around, but Mia pointed out he was lonely, and suggested he join us. Click on the the photo to see all the newest pictures.
For new readers, Sunday belongs to the Siblings. Technically, the larger humans of this family are not supposed to be working, so the children have begun to fill in. However, the group of crazy makers are off in Michigan, visiting their Auntie Lynn, and soon to be strutting about at the Michigan Sewing Expo.
Can you tell I moved from a star mood to an all out heart-love-fest?
I’ve added hearts aplenty to the on-line store. Friday must be my shameless plug for commerce day.
Have a love fest weekend. love, michele
