Bumping into the night

Uncle Crusty’s legs are knobby and boney.  Walk quickly down those creaky wooden stairs, before he loses his balance and topples right on to you.

Love all things creepy and crawly. Love scary and spooky. Love skulls and skeletons: they’re elegant, silly, and a great beginning point for creativity. Mixed Media Monday is hosting the best theme this week: Things That Go Bump in Night.

Uncle Crusty was made by punch needle embroidery and embellished with one glass eye, one commercial clock face button, and gold bugle beads for teeth.

Harmony

May we all find harmony in our own way. Be it from music, chocolate, meditation, art, or a warm bath. Manifested in the body, mind or soul: we think therefore we are.

Find other artist’s entries on Harmony at Mixed Media Monday. It’s a good time for harmonious art I think.

Mosaic Moon Shrine

I love mosaics, shrines and Moon imagery. Ta da! I’ve combined all three. Thanks to the fabulous contributors on Mixed Media Monday, Chris across the pond led me to Awfully Big Art Adventure - more art challenges, yea! This is their very first challenge, and it is a delicious one for me.

I’ve taken a plaster caste of a Crescent Moon man from a Swiss chocolate mold and painted him with acrylics and set him inside a shadow box. I then glued on handmade ceramic and polymer clay tiles, decorated with different paints, rubber stamps, jewelry findings and sparkley stars and store bought glass tiles. Inside the box I glued tiny lights from floral supplies, so when they are turned on they appear to be wee little stars.

Thank you for letting me share another project that brings me joy, michele

October 10, 2008: I have added a picture of this shrine lighted at the bottom of the October 8, 2008 post.

The Paranormal

The Paranormal

The Paranormal

I am Terry, (the Parental unit) guest hosting on eyembellishments. I want to share what I love for Mixed Media Monday. I am completely enthralled by the paranormal world. Whether it be Ouija boards, tarot cards, psychics, hauntings or reaching out to passed loved ones, I am intrigued.

This mixed media collage is composed of metallic and regular papers, fabrics, fibers and ceramic embellishments.

Show me the love

Mixed Media Monday’s theme for this week is Things-That-We-Love to do: I love Sock Creatures. Love to make them, pose them, learn their stories and see what other people around the world have discovered with socks. They are so silly, they make me smile. Each one develops a distinct personality. And they are the best traveling companions.

This weekend I pillaged my sock drawer and began this newest creature. They are so quick to whip up, it’s hard not to sacrifice all my foot apparel.

Sunday evening it received it’s eyeballs to be able to take in all the wonders of new world and see what other creators, over on MMM love to make.

Soul salad

A bowl full of ingredients: some are soft and rounded, others are pointed and sharp. There are sweet flavors as well as sour and salty. It gets stirred up daily and the finished results are never known.

Mixed Media Monday’s theme is stars. Stars are like polka-dots for me, I love them. I could do stars all week, and it looks like I will, so I can’t wait to see what the other creators come up with.

Mixed Media Monday - nature

Mixed Media Monday - nature

Mixed Media Monday’s challenge for this week is nature. Since finding out I have honey bees in my walls, I’ve wanted to honor them before they are relocated in March. The elements fell together while I was straightening up my house this week. I hope to use it as a focal point on a large piece, perhaps a house shrine of sorts.

I had the ceramic house and roof for another uncompleted mosaic project. Parental unit brought me glorious papers from her birthday trip and the honeycombed nests (from paper wasps) are from my deck tear down project. I just liked the look of the baby doll arms holding up the nest; I didn’t recognize them as trees till I had it all together. It was very difficult to photograph, it’s not this dark and dingy in person. Thanks Mixed Media Monday! loved this challenge.

White On White

white card for mmm

Terry’s contributions to love and MMM. A lovely textured white on white, including lace, pearls, opalescent glazed ceramic heart, decorative papers, and fabric. A nice day for a white wedding.

It’s been a little while since I’ve contributed to Mixed Media Monday, but I loved this idea. I am waiting for the kiln to open tomorrow for my red collage to come together.

Hopefully, pretty red apples for Friday. michele
